"The apartment was nice and we had a wonderful time. We went with Tibor and his friend Arpad to the "Donauknie" to Esztergom and it was a very nice trip. We also have had diner in red cafe and went to the thermal-bath. Thanks for your good suggestions. It was a very wonderful and interesting time in Budapest."

"We had a wonderful stay at your apartment. It was very comfortable and spacious. Especially when our friend who joined us had broken her foot and had to walk around in crutches. She found the ledges near the bathtub very helpful. We loved your taste in IKEA furnishings - it was very simple and pleasing to the eye. That is exactly what we needed. A comfortable and restful time in a beautiful city like Budapest. "

"To whom ever,

I had the opportunity to visit Budapest this past April. I consider my self a schooled traveler and do a lot of research on destinations prior to visiting them... in addition to learning about my destinations, I also have found renting apartments is far superior to hotel lodging.

Fine dining is not high on my list, but traveling light is... an apartment provides a kitchen to prepare meals and a washing machine to keep my clothes clean. Both keep expenses low and allows me to become part of a neighborhood, if even for only a week.

Once I confirmed my reservations for my apartment located on Csepreghy Utca thru Julian, some disturbing information was found on the internet. Basically, I learned the area surrounding the apartment was said to be the most crime ridden area of Budapest.

I passed the information on to Julian who immediately responded with... “where did you find that information!” He told me it must have been old since the area surrounding his apartment was far from being crime ridden, but was in fact one of the better developing areas of Budapest. He even provided me with a contact who had stayed in the apartment... this person responded to my e-mail with a glowing review of the apartment and location.

I dug deeper into the internet and started reading first hand what he was telling me. And, decided to put my trust in what he was saying me about District VIII - Józsefváros... I’m glad I did.

Area description from Wikpedia is spot on to what I experienced:

Józsefváros mostly consists of old, often neglected residential buildings with nice interiors. It can be divided into three parts, the borders being Grand Boulevard (Nagykörút) and the roads Fiumei út and Orczy út.

The innermost, central part includes several remarkable spots, such as the National Museum, and the central buildings of the ELTE university, the Semmelweis University, the Academy of Drama and Film, and the Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library, complemented by the Kempelen Farkas Student Information and Resource Centre. The Piarist Secondary School, the main building of the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church, and the Law Faculty of the Pázmány Péter Catholic University are also situated here, as well as the Hungarian Radio. This part is called "Palace Quarter", out of which one can still see Wenckheim Palace, hosting the Metropolitan Library, and Pálffy Palace with the Classical Music Collection of the above. This neighborhood underwent major renovations between 1996 and 2002 and it has become a happy, swarming place with scores of students and several cafés and pizzerias.

Apartment description:

105 sq/m and very well appointed with Ikea furnishings... comfortable couches and beds, two bathrooms one with bath/shower, huge, well equipped kitchen and in a secure building. Outside appearance is deceiving (as described in Wikpedia) because the buildings are a bit run down, but everywhere you look buildings are being restored. I stay inside the apartment, not in the courtyard and the accommodation was great.

Getting around Budapest the apartment:

Very easy access to what I consider the best transportation system I’ve ever experienced in a large city... the RER in Paris, Metro in Rome, GVB in Amsterdam or Metro in Prague don’t compare.

You go out the front door of the Csepreghy apartment, walk to the corner and it’s two blocks to the Ferenc Korut Metro station one direction and one-and-a-half to the tram and a block to the bus... can’t ask for a better location. The cost for using the system is 13€ for a week pass on the Metro, trams and buses... a very good value, and you’re always within a couple blocks of the system from virtually anywhere in the city.

There are grocery stores, cafes and bars, internet access, movie theaters, basically what ever you want but a short walk from the apartment... another plus which goes with the location. Raday Utca has great restaurants and the food/drinks a of good value for being in a trendy area (about 4 blocks from the apartment).

Overall experience:

I highly recommend booking an apartment with Julian... he is responsive to e-mails and I can say first hand will tell you like it is... Budapest is a great city with friendly and helpful people. Like any large metro area it’s not the cleanest, but when you have 1.8 million people living in a rather small area it’s quite well maintained.

I felt completely safe at any hour of the day where ever I ventured and have nothing but good things to say about the city and more importantly the people of Hungary.

I only wish I could have spent another week... if I would have known what I know now I would have. A truly memorable experience -- with the Euro so strong vs. the USD Budapest is a hidden treasure... I’ll be going back as soon as I can and will not hesitate to book an apartment thru Julian and his group.

Sincerely,

Lance Como, Golden Valley USA"
